But Turkey is much much bigger than it looks on the map. So when choosing the way from Safranbolu to Samsun, the choice must be made between seeing the picturesque coast of Black Sea or then reaching Samsun by hh-ing by the evening. We did not know that having both of the options in one day is nearly impossible.
So we saw truly beautiful cliffs of Black Sea, with a narrow road upon them, going through distant almost forgotten villages. Hitchhiking few cars in an hour was common to these roads, but actually it was not that bad, so we could spend the time by knocking hazelnuts on the road.
In Cide, we got an invitation from two female teachers from cultural center to taste their delicious mushroom pie and gigantic figs. Soon two male teachers joined us and when getting to know that we know few turkish words and our field is ecology-geology, we were given a long lesson of the Kapadokian geology and developement IN TURKISH, with expressive gestures and rich mimics.....soon we had to admit to ourselves that knowing some turkish geological terms like volcano, rock is not enough to understand the whole story of Kapadokya. But it is never nice to ruin teacher's joy of explaining, so we tried to look as understanding everything and went along with the story.
Our decision of choosing the coastline way ended the day for us in Kastamonu. We were walking on the streets of evening Kastamonu, looking for eye contact, but since no one was interested in us, we had to spend our first and hopefully the last night in a turkish hostel.
