Gorkha

After one week in Pokhara we decided to go to another hill town - Gorkha - it was just a perfect stop between Pokhara and Kathmandu.

Temples in Gorkha

The main attraction of Gorkha is the historical palace, situated on the top of the fortified hill above the town, several hundred steps leading up to it from the city center.
King Prithvi Narayan Shah, who unified the Kingdom of Nepal during 18th century was born here.

Now it is possible to get into this area for a ticket and worship some Hindu gods, whose temples are inside the fort. But the main reason we climbed all the way up there was the little-big fact that the air was clearer than it was in Tansen or Pokhara...

....it was worth the sweat...

Hillfort - Gorkha Durbar

... we saw the best view of Himalayas as we never did before !

Gorkha is actually a very small village, so one day is enough to spend there.
As we were waiting for the bus to Kathmandu in the bus stop, we witnessed bus accident. The road where bus was driving to the center was curvy and steep, don't know if the bus driver did not managed to take the curve well or was too fast or simply careless, but the picture was not nice. Vegetable sellers under the wall were jumping away as the noise of pieces of glass falling reached into their ears. Some people were injured and quickly carried away. Bus destroyed little temple that unfortunately stayed in its way.

Our bus left in some 15 min after the accident.
The picture stayed into our minds and the whole day lasting bus ride was not that relaxed with speeding bus driver on Nepalese narrow hill road - on one side of the road cliff up, on the other side of the road cliff down...
